Why gratitude works
Sep 04, 2016I have several friends having a really tough time right now. One is struggling with changes in her life, another is feeling negatively about changes in her body, and another is dealing with work she doesn’t love. Each is feeling overwhelmed, emotionally reactive and not at all like herself. Can you relate? All of us have probably felt like this at one time or another. One of the quickest and most effective ways to get yourself back on track is to focus on gratitude.
Why gratitude works
You’ve heard of the Law of Attraction, right? In case you’ve just join my blog, I’ll offer a quick refresher. The Law of Attraction is a spiritual law that dictates like attracts like. Like thoughts create like thoughts, which creates similar feelings. Feelings create like feelings which creates experiences to match our feelings. Feelings not only help create our experiences, but they are a barometer for us. If you are feelings something negative, you are out of alignment with source. If you are feeling something positive, you are in alignment with source and probably feeling empowered, positive and happy. Gratitude works as a catalyst to change your thoughts and feelings from negative to positive.
Gratitude as a pivot point
By focusing on gratitude, you are telling the universe “more of this, please”. The moment you activate gratitude you will feel a softening in your muscles, your breath will ease and you will feel yourself relax. Spiritually, the moment you focus on gratitude you take yourself out of fear and back into love. By being in a loving energy we begin to attract more loving experiences. It’s the Law of Attraction at work.
Give yourself permission to start small
Not sure what you want to express gratitude for? Don’t make it hard! Start small. Look around you right now. What is one thing you see or feel you can be grateful for? Find it? Good. Now, look for one more thing! Then another, and another. It won’t be long at all before you notice you are feeling lighter and more relaxed. You are settling into the gratitude. The more grateful you feel, the more gratitude you want to feel. And so a new cycle begins!! You have just pivoted activating the Law of Attraction in a healthy direction for yourself.
Make this a practice by setting a calendar alarm 1 or 2 times daily with a gratitude alarm. By shifting your focus and your energy in subtle ways throughout the day, you’ll notice your whole life subtly shifting as well. This gives me goosebumps! The possibilities are endless!! Will you please let us know how this practice changes your thoughts, feelings or lives? Leave a comment below.
